Shawn Groff

Shawn’s practice has focused on employee benefits law for more than twenty years. His experience in employee benefits includes all aspects of representation of multiemployer defined benefit pension plans, defined contribution pension plans and health and welfare plans regarding compliance, collections, fiduciary matters, plan design, subrogation and benefit claim proceedings. He also represents trust fund interests in bankruptcy proceedings.

Prior to joining the partnership at Leonard Carder in 2008, Shawn practiced law in Ohio for thirteen years and was a shareholder in Macala, Baasten, McKinley & Gore, LLC. For eleven of those years he represented multiemployer pension and health and welfare benefit trust funds, the majority of which were sponsored by Building and Construction Trades unions.

In 1992, Shawn graduated from the University of Akron School of Law and received his Masters of Taxation from the University of Akron School of Business. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family (including rescue dogs and cat), listening to music and following the Boston Red Sox.
