December 2003:  Victory Against
Wal-Mart

In December 2003, Leonard Carder successfully represented members of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors in a lawsuit challenging false and misleading statements made by Wal-Mart supporters in the ballot arguments relating to Measure L. This measure, which appears on the March 2, 2004 ballot, restricts companies from developing big box retail establishments having significant grocery operations within unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County. Leonard Carder challenged 8 statements in the pro-Wal-Mart ballot arguments and the judge agreed that each and every one of these statements was false or misleading and therefore need to be revised or stricken.
