In a ground-breaking decision, Alameda Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman ruled that the California Department of Transportation and the California Department of Transportation violated the law when they failed to require and enforce the payment of prevailing wages for MM&P-represented workers engaged in the construction, repair and retrofitting of the Bay, Richmond-San Rafael and Benicia Bridges. The Court issued writs of mandate against the state agencies ordering that they comply with the law. The Court also struck down a California regulation that would have deprived all workers on California public works projects of prevailing wages when they were working in new classifications not previously recognized by the Department of Industrial Relations.
