In June 2004 Alameda County
Superior Court Judge Ronald Sabraw preliminarily approved a
settlement in Reid v. Extended Stay America, a class action
lawsuit in which Leonard Carder represents plaintiffs who
challenge the company's illegal misclassification of managers
as exempt from overtime requirements. The settlement,
scheduled for a final "fairness hearing" on October 13, 2004,
will require Extended Stay America to pay over 6 million
dollars and to substantially improve working conditions for
the company's managers.
