By Order dated April 18, 2007, the Public Employment
Relations Board granted a request to seek injunctive relief
against Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Earlier in
the month Leonard Carder, on behalf of the Society of
Professional Scientists and Engineers, University
Professional and Technical Employees ("SPSE-UPTE"), had
petitioned the Board to seek immediate injunctive because of
the pervasive chilling effects of anti-union retaliation and
discrimination by management in the face of a union
organizing drive at the Laboratory. A week later, the Laboratory
quickly settled the matter rather than defend itself in
court, agreeing (among other items) to publicly guarantee the
rights of all employees to engage in a wide variety of
organizing conduct as the organizing campaign progresses.
